Jeroen Thoden van Velzen‘s blog post “Cloud Guardrails: Effectively Making Your Cloud Accounts Secure-by-Default” was published on November 27, 2023, and we can’t say thank you enough. For close to a year now, we’ve been talking to enterprises and partners about Secberus’ Cloud Governance Platform and setting it up ‘upstream’ of a CNAPP. And now SAP has demonstrated the effectiveness of a federated risk management approach to configuration governance upstream of a CNAPP. How effective were their guardrails? 99.6% of CNAPP alerts that would have been categorized as ‘Low’, ‘Medium’, and ‘Critical’ were now marked as informational. And that’s with just 24 guardrails! CSPMs are dead. SAP tried to build its own CSPM to manage this process, but CSPMs are designed to solve this problem. From a few partners who were early believers to an explosion in interest, Secberus is poised to scale rapidly in early 2024. And with far more configuration data sources available out-of-the-box along with an SDK later in the year which will enable any data source with an API and configuration data to be leveraged by the policy engine.
